The
time comes
when you whistle a tune
that is strange
And the heart cares not
where it was born
Never to repeat it again
not even once
Knowing it is but the reflection
of the soul |

This excerpt from a
poem written by my father Junio Lopez, best conveys how I feel
about my creative work. At times I feel that my art is a reflection
of my soul, the sole expression of my spirit, and at other times,
I sense that it is the physical reflection of this world on me.
If I accentuate the simple and positive aspects of life, spiritual
survival as it is interwoven with the menial tasks of everyday
existence, it is in these that I see the most beauty.
The vibration of pure
intense color and the dynamic synergy of a stylized perspective
are the means of my expressing that energy which I percieve in
the images in which I am directed to capture. My intent being
to share my vision of this energetic essence that underlies all
that we know as reality so that it is possible to become aware
of the beautiful and balancing experience of perceiving from both
our spiritual and physical natures. In my approach, color is always
primary and subject matter secondary. I sometimes choose my images
from my ethnic background, and other times from my environment.
Often times I paint from a non-objective mood or from the point
of view of a feminist attitude. I prefer that the viewer walk
away with a positive energetic experience.
